March 2021 - History of Flight

With the recent excitement about NASA's Perseverance Rover landing on Mars, have you ever wondered about the pioneers who made the very first flights?

The very first human flight took place in a hot air balloon in 1783 but it was 1903 when the first flight in a plane was successful - and that lasted only 12 seconds. Over the next 30 years, planes became more powerful and reliable. Did you know Yorkshire woman, Amy Johnson, was the first woman to sucessfully fly from England to Australia in 1930?
